Working closely with Ravinder and Bloomsbury, we explored the concept of using migratory birds as a metaphor for immigrant communities around the world.

The cover features a Ring-Necked Parakeet, a Golden Oriole and a Red Rumped Swallow all of which journey across Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe – roughly tracking Ravinder’s culinary journey from India to the U.K via Kenya. These birds are depicted alongside ingredients from Ravinder’s larder with papaya, guava, cardamom, pomegranate, curry leaves and pistachios amongst others.

All details were individually hand-painted in gouache, before being digitally compiled.
